Jayne was born on January 17, 1937 in Escanaba, MI to Howard and Marie Kenny. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University which she used to become a fashion buyer at Lazarus. Later, she earned a Master’s Degree of Education from The Ohio State University and became a teacher at St Vincent’s school in Columbus dedicating her time to underprivileged youth and at Beatty Park elementary where she taught behaviorally challenged students.
As an artist, Jayne’s botanical watercolors brought flowers and plants to life on canvas. A proud moment was when one of her watercolor paintings of the Worthington lampposts (Summer flower with American flag) was chosen to represent the United States in an art exchange with Japan.
Her curiosity drove her desire to learn, and she brought those learnings with joy to everyone she met touching their lives for the better.
One of Jayne’s passions was to better the environment and community for the benefit of all. As such, she was an activist, participating in many local organizations including the Worthington Area Art League, Worthington Hills Garden Club, Civilian Advisory Committee for Perry Township, and Friends of the Sawmill Wetlands to name a few.
Jayne and Al were good neighbors and fostered community and connection within the neighborhood. They will be fondly remembered for hosting their annual ice cream social and Christmas open house.
After a lengthy battle with breast cancer, she passed on peacefully surrounded by loved ones. We would like thank Jackie, her home helper, and the wonderful staff at Friendship Village of Dublin for their caring and love.
She leaves behind her sister Karen Carlsen (Don, deceased) of Naperville, Il., her sister and brother-in-law Kathie and Dr. Garry Rupp, and her children Diane Romick and her partner Stephan Harasim, Carol Marks her partner Michele Young, Allen T. Hopper and his wife Debby Brennan and Kristin McCormack and her husband Bill McCormack, and many nieces and nephews. She adored her grandchildren: Sarah, Rob, Mark, Ted, Danny, Will, Sheridan, and Jacob, and great grandchildren Creek, Cayden, Candice, Natalia, Evan, and Joe. She will be missed by all!
She will be missed by all, but we will remember her in the watercolor flowers and fall leaves. When we raise a glass or feel an ocean breeze, we will celebrate her life with joy!
