Jennifer “Jenny” L. (Hupp) Rees, 79, of Columbus, OH, transitioned peacefully on June 18th, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband John Rees and her best friend June Latshaw. She was born June 15th, 1945, as the first-born child of Ellis and Mabel Ann Hupp. Her father, Ellis Hupp, was serving as a P-51 fighter pilot during WW2 in Europe at the time Jenny was born.
Jenny enjoyed a happy childhood in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Linden-McKinley high school, where she was active in Marching Band. She went on to study Family and Consumer Sciences Education and graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University. She settled in the Columbus area, raising her 3 sons and being an active member of her community. Jenny was a gourmet cook, a master gardener, devoted spouse, and loving mother and grandmother.
Friends will remember her as the owner of Baskin and Robbins ice cream store on Henderson Rd for over 20 years, and she is well remembered for baking hundreds of weddings cakes for happy couples in the local area. She is also fondly remembered as a high school teacher in Home Consumer Sciences in Dublin City Schools for over 25 years.
Jenny possessed an unparalleled zest for life. She enjoyed travel, architecture, and art- and surrounded her life with beauty and joy. Her favorite trips were chaperoning her high school classes on excursions to Europe, the sights of Italy, and the food of France. Many summers were spent visiting her best friend, June, in Toledo, OH where the boys would endlessly play. Later in life, she married her high school sweetheart John Rees and settled into retirement. She loved to visit her children and grandchildren as well, with her most recent summer travels to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. Those closest to Jenny will know she loved a summer cookout, surrounded by family, friends, and food served fresh from her garden.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years, John Rees and her two sons, Lucas (Pritha) Workman and Lincoln (Bunny) Workman; grandchildren Tiffanee Harrah and Warner Workman, Liam, Henry, and James Workman; brothers Barry (Sandy), Kieth (Cheryl), and Eric (Carol) Hupp; and many loving nephews and niece, and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Lance Workman.
We also would like to thank the family and friends who ensured Jenny was surrounded with love through the calls, texts, and prayers received during her final days.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jennifer's life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 2pm, at First Community Church, in the North Sanctuary, 3777 Dublin Road, Columbus OH, 43221.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jennifer's name may be made to the Franklin Park Conservatory.
