

With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of John Leo Snyder on April 4, 2025. John passed away peacefully at home in downtown Columbus, Ohio, due to sudden complications from cardiac arrhythmia. He departed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and care of his soulmate of 35 years, Janet Pell.
Born on October 10, 1968, in Bellaire, Ohio, John was a beacon of joy and inspiration throughout his life. A proud 1987 graduate of Martins Ferry High School, he went on to earn a communications degree from Otterbein College, laying the foundation for a life of meaningful contributions and relationships.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Buck” Snyder, and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Snyder; sisters Kate Bruney (Fred) and Julie Snyder; nieces Grace Bruney and Tiffany Schneid; nephews Max Bruney and Ian Schneid; and a wide circle of friends and loved ones.
Since his mom recently moved to the area, John and his mom Mary Ann have been able to spend much more time together sharing lunches, laughter and childhood stories. Mary Ann cherished John’s compassion and his wit. His love and devotion to her brought her much comfort and happiness. John and Mary Ann have been documenting her stories in an online memory book project together during their visits. Reading the wonderful stories shared by high school friends and those who know John throughout his life have has brought his family great joy.
John's career reflected his diverse talents and unwavering dedication. He began in security, establishing himself as someone who prioritized care and protection. He later ventured into recruiting, where his entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found his own company, Pell Bostwich. Most recently, John found his true calling in personal training at Fit One Four in Columbus, where he was celebrated not only for his professional expertise but also for his contagious laughter, uplifting spirit, and genuine care for those around him.
The community at Fit One Four has shared profound memories of John, describing him as the “GOAT of personal trainers,” an inspiring mentor, and a cherished friend. Messages of sorrow and admiration flood in, reflecting his enduring impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. As one friend perfectly stated, “John was the best—one of a kind—and he will be deeply missed.”
John’s love for his partner, Janet, defined his life. Together, they built their first home in Westerville, creating a space filled with love and shared dreams. In 2000, they moved to their downtown Columbus condo, where they continued to make joyful memories. Their home was graced by the companionship of their first dog, Luther, a bulldog who brought laughter and warmth to their lives. In the past eight years, their beloved Australian Shepherds, Blu and Copper, became part of their family, adding joy and energy to their shared journey. Their enduring bond and deep companionship were a testament to their decades of love and partnership.
John's life will forever be celebrated for his unwavering love for Janet and his family, his impact on those he worked with, and the joy and strength he carried with him each day. His memory will remain a blessing to all whose lives he touched.
