Margaret (Peg) Dlouhy died peacefully in Delaware, Ohio on May 20, 2024 at the age of 92. Peg was born in Painesville, Ohio on July 11, 1931, to the late John and Betty (Tilden) Briesemeister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Dlouhy and son, Jonathan J. Dlouhy.
Peg lived an amazing life full of love, laughter, and adventure. She was an avid reader and gardener, completing the Master Gardener course in Georgia. She also loved to travel. While raising two children, Peg and her husband travelled extensively in the US and Canada, visiting many National Parks. She and Joe visited Australia, where she connected with a childhood pen pal, Russia, Belize, and St.John’s Bay. After Joe’s death in 1994, Peg took up bicycling which led to several biking trips in Europe. Two trips were with her daughter, to Ireland and the Netherlands. She also enjoyed taking Elder Hostel Trips, hosted by Rhodes Scholar, with friends to places like Rose Island Lighthouse and Costa Rica.
She attended Painesville Harvey High School. After attending Wooster College for a year, she transferred to Kent State University where she graduated with a Degree in Education. She went back to Kent State in 1978 to earn a Master’s Degree in Math Education.
Peg taught Elementary School in Garfield Heights and Maple Heights. She and Joe retired to Hartwell, Georgia in the 1980’s and built their dream lake house.
In recent years, Peg lived at Willow Brook Communities in Delaware, Ohio where she was President of the Resident Advisory Committee and Trips Coordinator. She loved to read, go to concerts, spend time with her daughter, dog-sit her granddog Bailey, and take walks.
Peg is survived by her daughter Susan Dlouhy (Barb Seckler) of Columbus, Ohio, granddaughter Elizabeth Dlouhy (Christina Sirmans) of Charlotte, NC, and sister Barbara Sherrard of Elizabethtown, KY.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm at Willow Brook. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Passion Works Studio, 20 E. State St., Athens, OH 45701 (on line donations - www.passionworks.org)
