

Mary was born on June 4th, 1948, in Melrose, Minnesota, to Ted and Delores Trutna. She grew up in Melrose and was the third of ten siblings. Mary was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps from April 1968 to January 1971 and graduated second while being the only female in her class. This led to a very strong devotion to her country. Semper Fi.
Mary graduated from California State University Fullerton in 1977 and received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Mary had a very successful career at BancOhio National Bank in Columbus, Ohio, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983.
Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a loving, caring, smart, talented, and thoughtful person. Mary married Curt Steele on April 13, 1985, in Cambridge, Ohio. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary enjoyed all card games, especially 500 and had a very competitive spirit. While living in Charleston, West Virginia, she loved spending time in her workshop and doing many projects around her home. Mary also enjoyed sewing and made quilts and clothes for Meghan as a child. She also was a soccer coach, Girl Scout leader, and active in Meghan’s school during her childhood.
Mary was involved and an active church member at Linworth United Methodist Church. This included volunteering in MOPs, the Women’s Bible Study, altar guild, church office, and the church’s garage sale. She was also active in volunteering at a local homeless and women’s shelter.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Delores Trutna.
Mary is survived by her husband, Curt; her daughter Meghan (Samuel), her daughter Kelly “KT” (Chris); her son Jason; her grandchildren Anna, Micah, Jake, and Cody; and her nine brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 AM on Friday June 6, 2025, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 AM. A church reception will follow the service and will take place at Linworth United Methodist Church, 7070 Bent Tree Blvd, Columbus, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be given in Mary’s name to Linworth United Methodist Church or to Autismspeaks.org.
