Philip “Phil” Scott Hawksworth, 70, a lifelong resident of Columbus, was born on October 17, 1955, to the late Donald and Bernadine (Meekis) Hawksworth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Hawksworth.
Phil graduated from Whetstone High School in Columbus, where he was a member of the marching band and jazz orchestra, playing six instruments and developing a lifelong love of music.
He went on to build a 38-year career with Abbott Laboratories, where he served in Process and Development. He believed in doing his work with care and doing it well. Known for his precision, curiosity, and collaborative spirit, Phil set a standard of excellence that inspired those around him.
Though Phil took great pride in his work, he valued family above all else. In 1993, he married his loving wife, Colleen, and together they blended a family of five children. Over the next 32 years, they built a life guided by their values, loyalty, humor, and a shared appreciation for the simple joys of everyday life.
Home on the farm in Hilliard was his favorite place to be. Whether he was tending to projects around the property, or giving tractor rides to his grandchildren, Phil found happiness in creating, caring, and connecting to those he loved.
In addition to Colleen, Phil is survived by his children Sarah (John) Stoeckel, Andrew (Diana) Hagans, Sarah (John) Borgmann, Scott (Megan) Hawksworth, and Elizabeth (Frank Gossage) Hagans; 14 grandchildren; brother Kim (Judy) Hawksworth. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the belief in the beauty of a well-lived life.
