Richard Allen Steiner, 71, a longtime Westerville resident, died Friday at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital following a brief illness. Dick, as he was known to his many friends, was with his beloved wife Sue and son Matthew at the time of his death. Dick was born in Dover, Ohio and raised in New Philadelphia, Ohio where he was a three-sport star athlete at New Philadelphia High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in business and accounting at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., where he played on the baseball team. Over the years, Dick had a successful career in the financial and banking industry before retiring in 2019. In retirement, Dick was an avid and excellent golfer, regularly playing with foursomes of a wide variety of friends. He also loyally followed the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland’s Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. More than anything, he enjoyed being with his family, especially the grandchildren
who affectionately called him, “Pa”. When he could not be with his grandchildren or following sports, you could find him enjoying a good book. Dick is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Sue, his son Matthew, of Wilmington, NC and daughter-in-law, Clare, three grandchildren; Asher, Colbie and Gabriella, and his sisters, Karla Edwards, of Westerville, Kathleen, of Volcan, Panama (Allen Douglas), sister-in-law, Cathy Cline and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Dick was proceeded in death by parents, Charles and Edith Steiner, father and mother-in-law, Donovan and Janice Cline, brother-in-law Jeff Cline, brother-in-law, Roger Edwards, sister, Christine Nedele, granddaughter, Isabella Steiner, and daughter, Jennifer Steiner. Family will receive friends Friday May 26, 2023, from 2-4PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 6699 N. High Street, with a funeral service to follow at 4PM.
