

Born on July 21, 1938 in Greenfield Ohio, to the late Virgil and Violet (Hatfield) Griffith.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her daughters Cherise (Joseph) Tokarsky and Gwen (Roni) Thornton; grandchildren, Phillip (JJ) Tokarsky, Matthew Tokarsky, Joshua (Kari) Benner, and Melanie (Craig) Dickson; great grandchildren, Mars, Koa, and Lou Tokarsky, Robert and Charles Benner; and Duncan and Keely Dickson; and numerous extended family and close family friends.
Her parents owned Roll-A-Way Skating rink in Newark, OH so she was an avid skater including dance skating. Member of Newark High School marching band, where she graduated in 1956. Shirley married in 1958 and had 2 children with her former husband (deceased). She was a homemaker for many years before returning to work, she obtained an associate’s degree from Columbus State Community College. She worked at the State of Ohio Board of Psychology and Ohio Department of Natural Resources from which she retired.
Discovered a passion for square dancing and became very active in the central Ohio square dancing community, both in the Bucks & Does singles and Little Brown Jug Singles clubs. She was a member of Bucks & Does for 16 years where she held all major offices including president. She loved travelling, which included a trip to England and multiple trips to the beach.
Shirley also enjoyed planning and attending parties, decorating for holidays and going on picnics. She loved to celebrate holidays with family and absolutely adored grandchildren and later great grandchildren. She was mostly optimistic and she tried to live her life to the fullest.
Visitation will be held on Monday April 6, 2026, from 4pm until 7pm, at the Schoedinger Worthington funeral home, 6699 North High St., Worthington OH, 43085.
