Susan was a proud graduate of Alliance High School and the Hannah E. Mullins School of Nursing in Salem, Ohio. Determined to follow her calling, she began as an LPN and later became an RN, dedicating more than 50 years to nursing. The majority of her career, an extraordinary 43 years, was spent at Riverside Hospital, where she provided skilled, compassionate care to patients and comfort to their families.
A devoted member of Epworth United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, Susan lived her faith through compassion and service. She volunteered with Helping Hands, a faith-based free clinic. She also volunteered with Honor Flight, helping honor veterans through trips to Washington, D.C.
Susan loved travel, adventure, and time with those she loved. Among her favorite memories were visiting Hawaii with her lifelong friend Debbie Hornberger as well as taking a RV road trip through the Western United States with her spirit sister Dinah Hayes and friend Tom Hayes. She also enjoyed golfing, canoeing, skiing, and biking.
She will be remembered for the love, light, laughter, and wonderful smile she brought into every room, as well as her indelible spirit and tireless drive to care for those around her.
She is survived by her son, David Ball, and daughter-in-law, Rachel (Rider) Ball; her daughter, Mary Ball-Swartwout, and son-in-law, David Swartwout; and her cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, and Joe and many beloved nephews and extended family members.
