

Walter Scott Haynes (Scott) age 97 of Powell, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023. He was born on November 29, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Marguerite (Scott) and Walter Haynes. He grew up with two older sisters (predeceased) in Park Ridge, Illinois. He entered the army at age 17 and served in WWII under Patton. He proudly attended Purdue University and was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He earned a degree in engineering and went to work for Owens Corning Fiberglass. Scott married Jane Walker Kurrus on December 23, 1950. He and Jane were married 55 years until her death in 2006. They had five daughters. He started a real estate development company and moved his family from the Toledo area to Worthington in 1964. He was proud of the accomplishments of all his daughters.
Scott married Sandy (Boulis) on December 27, 2008. Sandy was a blessing and helped keep him young. They enjoyed church activities and traveling to many exciting places. They were married for 14 years.
Scott had a quick wit and dry sense of humor. His favorite saying was, “It is what it is.” He had an adventurous spirit, liked traveling the world and exploring new challenges. He took many camping trips and enjoyed hiking into his 90s. Scott was an avid tennis player. In 2019 he was the national tennis champion for over 90 year olds in the Senior Olympic Games in Albuquerque. He also played squash for many years.
Scott trusted Jesus as his savior and was active at the Northwest Chapel in Dublin. He was generous with his time and resources.
Scott is survived by his wife, Sandy B. Haynes; daughters, Anne (Tom) O’Connor, Beth Haynes (Jon Cassel), Carol Haynes (Nathen Chapman), Julie Haynes (Anthony Cerra), Sara Haynes (Dan Schmitt); grandchildren, Megan (Izzi) Metz, Caitlin O’Connor, Ben Cassel, Emily Cerra, Eva Cassel, Rebecca Cerra, Sydney Schmitt, Erica (Larkin) Byer, Adam Potts; great grandchildren, Miles and Eli Metz, Avery Byer; step children, Todd Shidaker, Trent (Layne) Shidaker; grandchildren, Garrett (Lara) Shidaker, Kayla (Geoff) Senko, Colton (Haley Hirtle) Shidaker, Wyatt Shidaker, Allison Shidaker, Jillian (Thomas) Watkins; great grandchildren, J. T. Davis, Riley Shidaker, Lenny Shidaker, Graeme Senko; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Northwest Chapel, 6700 Rings Road, Dublin Ohio, from 1pm to 2pm and a Memorial Service will follow at 2pm.
