William Martin Patterson

Bill was born June 24, 1933 in Columbus, OH, to Francis Leroy Patterson and Mamie Velma Smith Scholz.

He graduated from Columbus North High School in 1951 and married Gwendolyn Patricia “Pat” Vest on December 29, 1951. They had two sons; William “Bill” Martin Jr. and Randall “Randy” Alan.

Bill was a 32° Freemason since 1966, with the Grand Lodge of F. and A.M. of Ohio, York Lodge No. 563, Columbus Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, United States of America.

He loved Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball, as well as bluegrass music.

Bill worked at the Char Bar, Beverly Drive-in, Jerry’s Drive-in, and then became the Division Manager for BBF (Burger Boy Food O’Rama). He owned Green Gables Restaurant, Uncle Bill’s Restaurant, Ben Franklin’s Restaurant, and the Grill & Skillet Restaurant before moving to, and working for, the State of Nevada. Finally, Bill became the Project Manager for EG&G, working in Africa for more than 10 years, before retiring.

Bill and Pat lived in Columbus, OH, Lake Choctaw, OH, Las Vegas, NV, and Georgetown, TX.

He is preceded in death by his wife Pat, son Randy, both of his parents Francis and Velma, his step mother Grace, his older sister and brother-in-law Louise and Wayne McCarty, older brother Donald “Don” and younger brother James “Jim”.

Bill is survived by his oldest son, William M. Jr (Linda), his grand-children; William M. III (Melanie), Joseph R. (Canady), Andrea N. Kerns (Russell), James W. and Casey B.; great-grand-children; Chad, Brooklyn, Cosmo; and step-great-grand-children Emilia and Mable Sonnier; nephews David McCarty, Patrick McCarty, and Don Patterson (Jill Stone).

His cremated remains will be placed next to his wife’s at Pleasant Cemetery in Mount Sterling, Ohio.

Many thanks to his family, many friends around the world, nurses and staff at the Western Reserve Masonic Community, and Crossroads Hospice. There will not be any service to prevent further spread of Covid.
