Artie was born Arthula Mae McVae on September 29, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her parents were Elmer Lee McVae and Nora Melvina Scott. She graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1948 and Santa Rosa Junior College with an Associate of Arts degree in 1950 and a Nursing degree in 1951.
Her proudest career accomplishments were obtaining her Registered Nurse license in 1953 and challenging the Nurse Practitioner exam in 1982 thereby receiving an ARNP license in 1983. She continued her RN license until her death. Artie was the clinical nurse at the Yakima Firing Center 1964 through 1989 when she retired from Civil Service. Through the years Artie used her nursing expertise to selflessly care for many others (family and friends) on her own time whenever and wherever she was needed.
Artie married the love of her life, Jay W. Norberg, on December 4, 1951. They spent many happy years dancing together every chance they got, vacationing with their travel trailer and motor home with family and friends and spending time with their wonderful family. They had two children, Lois born in 1952 and Jay Jr. born in 1954.
Artie and Jay were very active at FOE (Eagles Lodge #289). Artie was an accomplished cake decorator and enjoyed baking cakes and desserts for the Eagles Wednesday night dinners and other special Eagle occasions. Artie was an avid ''walking doll" collector. She liked nothing more than sewing fancy dresses for her "girls". Artie spent years as a volunteer at Crescent Convalescent center. Jay and Artie were very involved for many years in the Eagles Northwest Bowling Association, both having served as directors.
Survivors include her son Jay W. Norberg Jr of Port Angeles and daughter Lois Norberg Ingebrigtson of Bellingham; eleven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers George McVae and David Ruef in California and sister Beverly Ritsch, in California. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jay in 2007 and her sister Marjorie Westberry of Georgia.
Artie requested that in lieu of flowers, she would be best honored by donations of blood, time or money to the American Red Cross in her name.
