

Dave was born Feb. 15, 1929 in Yakima, WA to Robert and Teresa (Briskey) Hammermeister. Dave was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Highland High School in 1947. Then received a full scholarship to Gonzaga University where he played basketball for 2 years and baseball for 4 years, from 1947-1951.
Dave spent 4 years in the Army Airborne reaching the rank of 1st Lt. After that, Dave went to work for Boise Cascade Corp.
Dave played softball beginning in the early 1950’s and ended his playing days in 1968. Dave was elected to many All Tournament Teams and to 10 All State Teams. Dave played against a lot of great players and pitchers, such as Eddie Feigne, Mick Delaney, and Bob Fessler. Dave stated once that he played with and against many great players. He said that Mick Delaney was unquestionably the best pitcher he ever played behind, as he lead the Spokane Orphans and the Coeur‘d Alene Athletic Round Table or State Championships.
Dave was a well-loved man by his family and friends. Dave also enjoyed his days owning racehorses, 4 total.
Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Alex and Tom; his son, Jerry and the mother of his children, Sally.
Surviving family is his sister, Rosemary (Jim) Williams of Tieton; daughter, Jill (Andy) of Aberdeen, WA and 2 sons, Jeff (Nancy) of Keine, AK and Mike (Wendy) of Kennewick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Giovanni Ragonese, Christopher (Leah) Shockley, Brandon (Amanda Stout), Jerald and Trever; and his great grandchildren, Alexander, Aurora, Rylan, Finn and Ruby.
A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home.
