

James (Jim) Thomas Sides, age 72, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Tuesday, December 31, 2019. Jim was born January 28, 1947 to James and Lavern Sides in Fort Worth, TX. He moved to Yakima, WA with his family when he was a teenager.
Jim joined the Army and was deployed to Vietnam, returning home with a Purple Heart. He found his career as a plumber and owned two successful plumbing businesses.
He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, church family, going to car shows and hanging out with the racing community.
Jim’s passion in life was racing. He began racing at a young age. Whether drag racing with his son Randy, circle track, strip racing, or restoring classic cars, his love for the sport ran deep. He also enjoyed his large collection of Coca Cola memorabilia.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Carol Allen-Sides; children: Christy Peterson, Randy (Heather) Sides, Kandy (Fred) Ozuna, Hailey Allen (Michael Hollibough), Heather (Ryan) Meagher, and Ashley (Jeff) Forbes; ten grandchildren: Garrett and Evan Sides, Ryker and Carter Ozuna, Sawyer and Rhett Hollibough, Brooks and Blair Forbes, Dallas (Megan) Peterson, and Ross Peterson; great-granddaughter, Sophie Peterson; his brother John (Nancy) Sides; and former wife Deborah Sides. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Lilly.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Laverne Sides, sister Lynda Scully (Sides) and nephew Dustin Lee Sides.
A service will be held at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 2805 Englewood Ave., Yakima, WA on Saturday January 25, 2020 at 11:00 am.
