Karl was born in the middle of a large family in Yakima on July 30th, 1953. He attended St. Joe’s, where he was often seen reading as he walked to and from school. He had an excellent memory, and always did well in school. When he moved to public school he met his lifelong friends, Willy, Ronnie and Dennis. Karl met Becky in college and they married on his birthday in 1977. The next year, his friend Don invited them to come to Alaska. The loved it there and made Anchorage their home. Fishing and camping were Karl’s favorite things to do. Karl started working at VECO right away, and always loved his work there. He worked there for 23 years.
The days his children Karly and Megan were born were the proudest moments of his life. He never missed a concert or play or awards ceremony they were in. He loved hosting parties for their friends, especially Halloween parties.
In 2000, Karl received a liver transplant that gave him almost another 12 years with his family. He was able to attend his son Karl’s graduation from Harvard and Columbia Law and his daughter Megan’s graduation from Yale and MSU’s Ph.D. program. He walked both his children down the aisle at their weddings and was here for the birth of his precious granddaughters Rachel and Allison. He loved it when Rachel called him “Big Papa”. Karl always had a special place in his heart for children. You could often find him on the floor playing with his nieces and nephews. At 6’8” if the little ones were brave, he would hold them upside down so they could walk on the ceiling.
The last years back in Washington, reconnecting with family and friends, traveling with his children, were all great times for Karl. We’ll miss his humor and his caring nature. We’ll love him always.
Karl was preceded in death by his father Karl Huth, mother Isabelle James, brothers Nicky Huth, Tommy Huth, and Don Huth, sister Jeanette Rehn and mother-in-law Freda Himes.
Karl is survived by his loving wife, Becky; his son, Karl (Leah) Huth; daughter, Megan (Aaron) Huth; granddaughters, Rachel and Allison Huth; sisters Diane Thompson, Carol (Tom) Maskell, Shirley Parnell, Debbie (Tim) Garbe, and Sharon (Ken) McCormick; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
