Leonard was born on May 19th 1942 to Willie and Yvette (Coupal)Riel. He was raised on the family farm in Harrah where he worked right up to his passing.
Leonard married (Marilyn) Kay Montgomery, his wife of 47 years, on October 26th of 1963.
He played the accordion at an early age and was a member of a band that performed in the Yakima area.
He loved spending time in the mountains and came to call Rimrock Lake a second home, meeting new friends and rekindling old ones there.
NASCAR was also a favorite pastime having traveled to several racetracks; even to witness his favorite driver the late Dale Earnhardt win the Daytona 500.
Later in life Leonard and Kay were determined to see as much of the world as possible, taking a trip to Japan, and twice circling the US via the highways.
The Harrah Farmhouse Café was a frequent stop for “morning service” where many stories were told and tall tales were born.
His laughter and smile were both boisterous and infectious.
Leonard is survived by his wife Kay, brother Jerome and wife Eileen, daughter Mary and her husband John, son Jeff and his wife Jacki, son Steve and his wife Misti, daughter Amy and her husband Doug, and grandchildren Emily, Lindsey, Hunter, Jackson, Blake, Kendall, Katie, and Quinn…and of course his right hand dog Buster.
