Marie Ellen Creighton was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, on March 3, 1928 to Ernest H. Evans and Eva Rena Claxton Evans. She died on March 27, 2018 at the age of 90. Marie was the second oldest of four children. She spent her childhood and young adult years with her family in Paul’s Valley. Her family relocated to the Yakima Valley in the mid 1940’s.
Her father introduced her to Dave Creighton and they married in 1962 and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2017. Among other jobs, Marie enjoyed a successful career at Yakima Federal Savings and Loan for 27 years.
In addition to her level headed and practical side, Marie had a fun-loving side and enjoyed time outdoors. She spent many happy hours fishing with her parents and friends. She and Dave traveled to the Western US in their camper. She loved sports, especially baseball, supported Yakima’s Class B and Western League teams, and was an avid Mariners fan. She loved country music and one of her proudest moments was meeting Mel Tillis in person, and having the photo to prove it! She had fun at the local casinos and made many friends there as well. Marie also had a strong artistic side. She crocheted afghans, did needlework, did beautiful embossing on purses, wallets, belts and painted beautiful still life and scenery. Many family members still treasure her creations.
True to her considerate nature, she did not want to burden anyone with her illness. She moved herself into the Good Samaritan Healthcare Center, where after a few short weeks she quietly slipped away in her sleep. The family would like to acknowledge the Good Samaritan Healthcare Center for their loving and compassionate care they showed Marie during her short stay with them.
Marie is survived by her husband, David Creighton, at home; sister, Ruth (Don) Cole of Sunnyside; granddaughters, Katie Hotchkiss and Jennifer Hicklin, both of Alaska; her nieces, Donna Becker, Connie Gores and Kris Marks, to whom she was a “second mom.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Ernest Evans; sister, Nora Domonkis and brother, Ray Evans; sadly, her two sons Bruce and Steve Hicklin also preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 also at the funeral home. Concluding services will follow at Tahoma Cemetery.
