YAKIMA - Mary Sublett, 85 ,passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at Yakima Regional Hospital. Born in Butte, Montana, to Austrian immigrants, David and Domenica Zoret, Mary grew up on a farm in Ollala, WA. After graduating from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, WA, Mary worked as a bookkeeper. Later she attended college as an art major.
Miss Zoret married Army veteran and pharmacist John Sublett in 1951. After a three-month biking tour through Europe, the couple moved to Yakima in 1953, where they raised two children and owned and operated the Thrifty Rexall Drug store at Tieton Village.
Throughout her life, Mary explored various artistic outlets, becoming an accomplished painter and potter. She volunteered in schools and other community organizations throughout her life. She and John were active members of the Cascadians for many years. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, cross country skiing, and gardening.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 2011. Survivors include a sister, Emma Cardinal, Felton, WA, her children Brian Sublett and wife Lisa Stahr from Menlo Park, CA, and Heidi Waldstein and husband John from Needham, MA and her granddaughters Rachel, Mattie and Tory Waldstein.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 12 at the First Presbyterian Church at 9 S. 8th Ave, Yakima, WA.
