Mayra was born December 2nd, 1970 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. As a child, Mayra was a performer, loved to be silly and make people laugh as she repeated silly quotes from movies/songs, imitated actors or simply acted goofy. She loved music and dancing and would have her family gather around her at night to showcase her new dance moves and songs.
Mayra grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. While there she studied in Immaculate Conception School and made some great dear friends whom she was still very much in touch with. She moved with her family to Yakima at the age of nine where she attended St. Paul’s Cathedral School and Franklin Junior High School. Mayra learned to play the flute, ran track, was a cheerleader and played basketball. She graduated from Eisenhower High School and went on to the University of Washington in Seattle. Mayra was a fashionista at heart, she loved everything to do with fashion and always made sure her outfit was nicely matched with her nails, the right purse, shoes and jewelry.
In 2002 she had the biggest joy and love of her life, her daughter Nikka, and decided to move back to Yakima to be closer to her family. She met and married her soulmate of 13 years, Mikel Daughtry. She was employed at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic as Supervisor of Behavioral Health Services where she was loved by her peers and staff. Mayra was sweet, caring and had an uplifting spirit that comforted everyone she connected with.
She smiled. She laughed. She loved. She cared, always.
Our beloved Boricua goddess, we know that your spirit will always be with us as you salsa dance in heaven with your uncle, Juan B. Andino; your grandparents and other friends and family members you’ve encountered in your new paradise.
Mayra is survived by her husband, Mikel Daughtry; her daughter Nikka Ines Lainer; her parents, John and Yolanda Naiden and Carlos Rivera (Lucy); two brothers, Jason Naiden (Yomara) and Jeffrey Naiden; three sisters, Janis, Adelle and Janzy Lee Rivera and many loving uncles and aunts that love her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at Stone Church, 3303 Englewood Ave., Yakima on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Concluding services and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. To celebrate the life of Mayra and share a memory please visit www.lepfuneralhome.com.
