Merlin W McGuire

Merlin Wayne McGuire, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2024. Born February 19th, 1938 in Pender, Nebraska, to Melvin and Alvina McGuire. He was one of seven boys and spent most of his childhood in Chehalis, Washington. He later settled in Yakima and attended Yakima High where he met the love of his life, Florence. They went on to marry on November 15, 1958 and had three children. Merlin worked with his father and six brothers for the family businesses, McGuire Lumber Co. and Rahier Trucking Inc. for 40 years.

He retired in 1996 and spent many days traveling, fishing and trips to the lake with his family and friends. He was the biggest supporter for all of his kids and grandkids, never missing a game, a meet, a match, recital or even life's little moments. He took pride in diligently caring for their home, land, and farm animals. There garden was filled with an assortment of favorites, and even the beets he disliked that Florence loved. He taught his family determination and hard work, even if that meant learning the hard way. He was patient, understanding and inspiring, always the "go-to guy" for advice, a listening ear and a good laugh.

Merlin is survived by son, Brad McGuire and daughter, Brenda McGuire; grandchildren Kristin (Anatolio) Pacheco, Cara (Clint) Cook, Brett (Kristi) McGuire, Morgan McGuire(Tyler) , Alexis (Patrick) True and Ashley Brown. He also leaves behind six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence and son, Bruce McGuire; parents Melvin and Alvina McGuire; six brothers-Richard, Bob, Dale, Larry, Jack and Denny.

The family appreciates the care and support provided by the Memorial hospice services. They are forever grateful for the comfort and care provided over the last year.

Memorial contributions in Merlin's honor can be made to Cottage in the Meadow, c/o The Memorial Foundation. A Celebration of Merlin’s life will be held on Wednesday February7, 2024 at 1:00 at Keith and Keith Funeral Home.
