

Mildred was born April 22, 1923 in Missoula, Montana to Alexander and Ruth MacNab. The family moved to Ekalaka, Montana in 1929, and she completed her elementary and high school education there. She completed a course at Kinman Business College in Spokane, WA. Mildred worked for the Department of Public Welfare in Wibaux, Montana, moving in 1942 to another state department job in Helena, Montana. There she met a charming Canadian soldier who was training at Ft. William Henry Harrison, and they were married in 1943. While he was serving with the joint Canadian-American First Mildred L. Vautour, 89, Yakima, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
Special Service force in the Mediterranean Theater, she remained in Helena. Upon his return stateside, they moved to Ontario Province, Canada where they lived for four years before returning to the United States.
The family moved to the Yakima Valley in 1949, and then to Yakima in 1956. Mildred was employed by the accounting firm of Moss Adams, LLP (formerly Frame and Whiting) until her retirement in 1989.
Mildred enjoyed reading, puzzle-solving, knitting and crocheting, playing bingo, and especially enjoyed traveling to many places. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #379, a Memorial member of the Yakima Elks and Eagles Lodges, and was a past member of Parker Heights Presbyterian Church, Parker Heights Junior Women’s Club and the Terrace Heights Women’s Club.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur and wife, Jayne of Burlington, NJ, and Gregory and wife, Lucinda of Tieton, WA and one daughter, Gwyn Slack of Oakland, CA. their ten surviving grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, her parents, her brother, Alexander MacNab and sisters Betty Miller, Jean Cardy, and Stella MacNab.
Mildred spent the later part of her life with friends she loved at Windcrest Villa.
