Patricia May Berthon

Patricia May Berthon (Pat or Patsy) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, with her daughters around her. She was born on October 18, 1940, in Yakima, Washington, the second child to Victoria and Ray Wooton.

Pat grew up on a ranch in Ahtanum, Washington where she enjoyed many adventures with her four younger sisters and brother. During summers, she and her family enjoyed trips to her Aunt Laura’s cabin on Rimrock Lake. In her teenage years, Pat was a majorette in a community band. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1958 and went on to attend Yakima Valley College. After college, she began a long career in banking and the insurance industry. She started at Seattle First Bank and later went on to serve as a regional administrator for Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 20 years.

Pat met the love of her life, Denis (Denny) Berthon, in 1963. They married on June 13, 1964, and had three daughters, Cherie, Lisa and Danielle. She and Denny were always very active in St. Paul’s Parish. Pat served as the director of the CCD program while her girls were young. She and Denis also participated in a Marriage Encounter group for several years.

Pat always said, she was happiest when she was with her family. She was very devoted to caring for her own mother, Vickie. She, Denny and their girls spent many wonderful, summer weekends at the Berthon family cabin on Bumping Lake. In retirement, she and Denny enjoyed traveling. Hawaii was their favorite destination, but they also enjoyed trips to Port Townsend, the Oregon Coast, Alaska and Europe.

Pat was preceded in death by Denny, her husband of 47 years. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands Peter Snell, Mike Hougardy and Jason Koch and her five grandchildren Camille, Christian, Elliott, Maggie and Olivia who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by three siblings, Tom Wooton, Betty Wilke and Gloria Clark, and preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Walker and Nancy Vetch.

Her children are grateful for the amazing and loving caregivers and friends at Hillcrest Assisted Living, where Pat lived for the last five years. Most of all, her daughters are grateful for all she taught them about the importance of compassion, love and family –and how to be independent, strong, and gracious.

A visitation for Patricia will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Paul Cathedral, 1208 W Chestnut Ave, Yakima, WA 98902. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 1405 S 24th Ave, Yakima, WA 98902.
