His father had a farm in the Wapato/White Swan area. Dick graduated from Wapato High School. As a teenager he spent some time logging with his father, then his interest turned to cars. He loved fixing up cars, attending car shows and drag racing. He was a member of the Vulcan Car Club. He had a pick-up and a car in a Hot Rod publication.
Richard also served in the Army as a private and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War working as a mechanic.
He married Mary Ann Richards (Tillman) in April of 1958. The family consisted of Cindy, Valerie, Dianne, Timothy and Elizabeth. Richard made the decision to go to seminary and attended and graduated from the Anglican Theological College in Vancouver, B.C. When he graduated the family moved to Fort Nelson, B.C., 300 miles up the Alaskan Highway where he served for 5 years.
He then moved on to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory where he served at the Cathedral for 2 years. From there the family moved to Casper, WY where Richard served 2 more years at St. Marks Episcopal Church.
The family moved back to Yakima in 1979 where Richard worked at various jobs in Yakima and the Vancouver, WA area.
Dick was always joking and teasing. He loved to tell funny stories! He loved gardening as well.
Richard and Mary Ann moved into Chesterly Meadows in 2004. They liked being part of the Chesterly community until Mary Ann’s death in 2007. Dick stayed on until his death January 5, 2013.
