He was born on June 10, 1962 at Seattle, Washington and was the second child and only son of Jan and Jerry Vriens. Although he was not destined for fame or fortune, he brought joy to those around him.
He was the well-loved son of Janet Willett Vriens and Jerry Vriens who preceded him in death. He had two sisters, Deb who survives him, and Terri who died in 2012. He was uncle to Jayson and Jenny Crothers and Jesse Vriens. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle John Ernest and Margaret Willett Ernest and his cousin Tom Ernest. Another cousin Doug Ernest preceded him in death.
Bobby arrived on this earth with difficult handicaps and disabilities. However, he had a sweet disposition and was a happy individual. He was always happy to meet anyone and laughed easily and frequently. He was without malice and happily greeted everyone, whether he was meeting them for the first time or not.
Bobby lived at the Yakima Valley School a little over 48 years, from May 28, 1970 to July 27, 2018. He was greatly loved by all who had the honor to serve him and he will be missed. He loved one on one interactions, eating, going on rides, and was always happy to go on outings to explore his community. He was a great devotee of movies and television. He loved to laugh and giggle. Although there were many things Bobby could not do, he had the gift of love of those around him.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth”
Matthew 4:5
The family extends their gratitude and best wishes to the wonderful staff at the Yakima Valley School where he spent many years of his life. It was always a joy to speak with them and hear how much they enjoyed their times with Bobby.
Bobby’s ashes will be scattered on Puget Sound in the same area as his parents. There will be a celebration of Robert’s life held at Yakima Valley School on August 13th at 2:00 p.m. Following the celebration, a butterfly release in his honor will be held in front of the main building. Refreshments in the main lobby will follow.
It is suggested that those wishing to remember Bobby make a donation to the Yakima Valley School.
