On a beautiful September 4th day, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed from us into the arms of the angels, to be delivered to the gates of heaven. She acknowledged her readiness to be with God and went peacefully with her family at her side.
Rosalyn was born on December 26, 1935 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to Henderson and Mary Reed. The family moved to the Yakima Valley when she was a young child, marveling along the way at all the cotton in the fields of Colorado, only to realize it was snow none of them had seen before. Growing up in the Naches area, she met the love of her life in a young soldier fresh back from the Korean War named Donald Day, and they married on September 17, 1954, embarking on a lifelong journey of nearly 58 years together.
Rosalyn, or as we all knew her as "Rosie", was the most giving and compassionate person. She was "Mom" to 5 lucky children, and was always there for all of their friends as well, none of whom called her Mrs. Day...she was simply "mom" or "Rosie" to all. Her gracious home was always open to all that came there, and they better have come hungry!
Rosie loved her work in fruit processing, mostly spent at Clasen Fruit, where her gregarious nature made her many friends. She enjoyed fishing with her husband Don and her sons; she was an avid fisherwoman, and would catch fish! Rosie also loved shooting pool and was a great shot, helping her team to a city championship one year. Along with Don, she enjoyed growing gardens and flower beds, preserving the produce and fruits to feed her family...and to provide a little "cherry jubilee" around Christmas time! And she loved her pinochle games with family during the holidays. Together, they loved the country life at the homestead where they raised their children. No one could make a better scratch pie, and like her mother, she could never cut a small piece. She absolutely doted on her grandchildren and always spoiled them at every chance.
Rosie is survived by her loving husband Don and her five children: Douglas (Jennifer) Day, Mark (Cindy) Day, Steve (partner Pam) Day, all from Yakima, Sandy (Bill) Smith from Puyallup, and Ted (Deborah) Day from Boise. She is also survived by her brothers Charles (Dixie) Reed (Yakima), and Larry Reed (Seattle), and sisters Maxine Leonard (Redding, CA) and Shirley (Willis) Kroetsching (Renton), along with grandchildren Sarah (husband Marcus), Andy, Marky, Rachel (husband Justin), Casey, and Layton, and great grandchildren Wyatt, River, Atalie, and Harper.
A celebration of a wonderful woman who had a great life and family will be held at 1 p.m. on September 15 at the Wiley Union Church, 2711 S. Wiley Road; reception to immediately follow.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Please express your condolences or leave a message for the family at www.lmfuneralhome.com.
