

Roy Carl Reich, of Yakima, passed away to a better life, Thursday, December 22, 2016; at the age of 89 in Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital. Roy’s loving and gentle soul was born in McLaughlin, SD, to Baltezar and Katherine Reich. Roy moved to the Yakima Valley at the age of 5, where he grew up and developed his wonderful spirit for life. He was married to his wife of almost 66 years, Kathryn Reich of Yakima, in 1951, where the couple raised two sons and cherished the great northwest surrounding outdoor recreational life style.
Roy served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War as Boatswain’s third class and completed Security Patrolman Military Police School. He was stationed at Cape May, NJ. He served on the ship USCGC Bering Strait, Camp Gordon, GA and Seattle, WA. Roy was employed for thirty years with the Yakima County Public Works as a road maintenance supervisor. In his retirement years, Roy enjoyed serving with the National Forest Service on the firefighting crews. He loved the serenity of the outdoors and was passionate about fishing, hunting, and R.V. travel, with the majority of his time spent on the Pacific coast.
Roy is survived by his wife Kathryn of Yakima; two sons, Rick (Clare) Reich of Spokane Valley, WA and Gary (Alana) Reich of Priest River, ID; three grandchildren Lisa Siefken, Christy Reich and Candy Correia and two great grandchildren, Kalia and Melia Correia. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home (902 W. Yakima Ave.), on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The family requests, on the behalf of Roy, that any donations to a charity be given to the National Kidney Foundation.
