November 19, 1947 – September 25, 2023
Thomas “Tom” Snell, a long time Yakima resident, passed on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the age of 75. He was the only child of James and Margaret Snell. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1966 after playing on the State Championship Basketball team in 1965. Tom was a natural athlete, playing basketball and baseball but after his dad introduced him to golf at the Elks Country Club, Tom became a golf devotee and chose to accept a golf scholarship at Seattle University.
During his college years, he supported his young family working at an Exxon service station while traveling with the golf team and attending classes. After graduation in 1970, Tom was hired into a sales representative position with Exxon and grew into a Vice President role with the company in the early 1980s.
After leaving Exxon, Tom returned to his home roots in Yakima, Washington with a 10 year stop in Southern California on the way. Beginning a new career with Morgan Stanley, he enjoyed building relationships with his clients and friends until retirement. It was hard to separate Tom from his work, but he enjoyed annual trips to Palm Desert where he played golf and enjoyed close friends.
Tom cherished his friendships with the many people that he grew up with as well as all the friends he made in recent years. As his health declined, his friends were ever present, visiting him in his home and hosting him at the country club. Some of his happiest memories involved friendships from his youth, the Yakima Country Club, and every swing he took with a club.
Tom is survived by his second wife, Lyn Snell; the mother of his children, Yvette Lundy; daughter, Shawn Buckon of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Shane Snell of Yakima, WA; son, Damon Snell of San Diego, California; and 9 grandchildren, Max, Jack, Josie, Aidan, Ryan, Noah, Adam, Eleanor and Gretchen.
Tom will be laid to rest in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held from 1until 3 PM, Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Yakima Country Club, 500 Country Club Dr, Yakima, WA 98091.
