Joy was in the dshs adolescenrt unit with me.  She was my good coworker and friend.  When I had illness in my family and could not go out of state to pick up a girl on my caseload, Joy went for me.  She was always willing to help . She was fun to work with and always put the childen on her caseload first. When you needed help in trying to deciide what was best for  child Joy was always willing to help you
She was not only a good coworker but a good friend.
She will be missed by all that loved her.

I worked with Joy at DSHS in  Bob Asbury's Adolescent Unit.  She was a good coworker and a good  friend.  She always tried to do the best for the children on her caseload.  When I was not able to go out of State to pick up a girl on my case load Joy went for me. She would always do what she could to help a coworker. I really liked working with her and having her for my friend..
She will be misssed.

Joy was a character who was bigger than life.  She cared so deeply for the children and families she was responsible for.  She would not only go the extra mile, she would go the extra ten miles.  She was unwilling to allow any more hurt to come to the children in her care, and was there for those children day and night.  Her heart was filled with so many successes.  She would take on the impossible and would always succeed; would never give up on a family or a friend.  I will always remember her gruff exterior, with her beehive hair and a heart bigger than anyone's. Joy will continue to share herself with the angels and all of the little children residing in heaven.  We, on earth, will truely miss her.

Joy was always full of energy and life.  She did so much good for her clients and shared her great wish for a better life for the children she worked with.  She will be greatly missed.

Though we did not personally know Joy, we live in the same mobile court as she did. We would often see her vehicle pass by our home. We wish to extend our greatest sympathy to her family for their loss.

Joy was my dear beloved friend, my partner in helping children and families, our mentor and inspiration. Her kind and generous spirit healed hundreds of children's broken hearts.  She was a great soul, who lit up our lives with her sparkling eyes and radiant smile and made the world a better place when she was in it. And oh how that huge heart of hers could love! And she loved her family so!

Joy Skahan, a most remarkable woman.  Unmatched in doing right by people who needed her help.  Joy gave abundant kindness and love to the children and families she served.  This is why the children called her 'Mama Joy.'
