Verene Shearer Kwak passed away peacefully on July 10, 2018. She was born in Ronald, Washington on December 21, 1918.
She married John Shearer in 1936 and they had 2 children. She and John owned a small grocery store called Mom’s Grocery on 9th Avenue for several years. She then worked retail at Yakima Hardware and later was the secretary of Gilbert Elementary School for 26 years before retiring. After John died in 1981 she helped form a Widows and Widowers group along with the Tops group at the Senior Center. She later married Peter Kwak of Harrah and they enjoyed 18 years together before he passed away in 2007.
She loved to cook and bake, Tole painting, crossword puzzles and crocheting. She was also active in First Christian Church in Yakima. She is preceded in death by son Adair Shearer. Survived by daughter Phyllis Snuggs (Don), 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services to be held at Tahoma Cemetery Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00. Special thanks to Fleur di Lis for their loving care.
