Vern Arthur LaFontaine, 81, passed away in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 2, 1936 to Jay and Cecilia LaFontaine of Yakima, WA. He was raised in Yakima and attended Marquette Catholic School. After graduating he then went into the United States Coast Guard for 4 years. He soon met the love of his life, Laureen LaFontaine, through a mutual friend. They married on June 24, 1961.
Vern and Laureen soon moved into their family home on Arlington, where they raised their two sons, Jay and Mark. He enjoyed cutting wood, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles.
But anyone who knew him well would say he had two passions, yard work and his career. He was extremely meticulous when it came to his lawn. Neighbors would regularly see him trimming the edges of his lawn by hand with shears. His other love was his career. He was a representative with Bankers Life and Casualty from 1961-2017. He loved his policy holders. He would drive 200 miles out of his way just to make sure they had 1 piece of paper. He was awarded many times for this excellent customer service as well as hitting many sales goals.
Vern is survived by his lovely wife, Laureen of 56 years; son, Jay A. LaFontaine; sisters, Lorie Jean Morton and Dolores Shields; grandchildren, Krystal Genereux and Lucas LaFontaine; great granddaughter, Jade Genereux as well as nieces and nephews.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents, Jay A. LaFontaine and Cecilia LaFontaine, son Mark LaFontaine, brother Andre Joseph LaFontaine and sister Ellamay Sanderson.
Per Vern’s request there will not be a service.
