She was born October 15, 1917, in Bremerton (Charlston), WA, to Andrew H. Bachison and Elsie Virginia Carpenter Bachison.
Her childhood was spent in Bremerton, WA. When Virginia was 14 years old, the family moved to Yakima where she graduated from Yakima High School in 1936. Her favorite subjects were math and bookkeeping.
Initially, she worked as a fruit packer where she met her husband to be, Ivan J. A. Young. They were married two years later on April 7, 1943.
While Virginia worked for the draft board, Ivan enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The couple then moved to Klamath Falls, OR. After the war they moved back to Yakima where the two of them were employed at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation for two years.
Having completed her work at Hanford, Virginia became the purchasing agent at St. Elizabeth Hospital where she was elected Employee of the Year by her peers. After five years in this position she was hired as a medical secretary by Dr. Merlin Anderson. Upon her retirement at 65, she worked for Dr. William Robinson as the clinic’s financial records manager, serving in this position well into her eighties.
Virginia was a lifelong member of the Yakima Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving as a children’s Bible teacher for many years. She was a lady possessed of many pithy sayings, four of which are: “Everything happens for a reason”; “What will be, will be”; “We are the captains of our own fate”; and “I will be praying you through.”
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Ivan Young, 1987; daughter, Bernadine Sockley, 1994; son, Gaylord Young, 1999; brother, Henry Booth; brother, Andy Bachison Jr., 1988; and sister, Mary Noll, 2016. Virginia is survived by her son, Marvin Bachison (Helen) of Everett, WA; her daughter, Ivonne Young (Michael Osborne) of Yakima, WA; son-in-law, Robert Baker, of Yakima, WA; 16 beautiful grandchildren; 30 sweet great grandchildren; and 12 precious great-great grandchildren. ONE BLESSED LIFE!
