(Also known as--Grandma Vivie’s extra special life of 98 years)
• Mom had 14 siblings (she was the 5th child born to Tex and Lorene McGrath)
• Mom was born in Los Angeles, California and moved as young child to White
Swan, Washington. She enjoyed telling stories of being a little girl riding horses
bareback, having to eat the green tops of the veggies that her parents grew,
scared to walk in the dark of night to the outhouse because the boogie man might
get her, walking to school in the deep snow, lining her shoes that had holes with
cardboard, trying to keep her little sisters out of dangers way, and there were
times when the Yakama natives would bring their family food to help feed the
growing family. Mom did not focus on the tough times of her life. She preferred
to enjoy and share the good times!❤️
• Mom moved to Yakima and worked at Larsen’s bakery every day before school
graduated from Yakima high school, she met and started to chat with her
neighbor guy across the alley and next thing she was engaged to Alvard
Dufault who was 20 yrs older then her. She was baptized on the same day
she was married and had become a devout Catholic from that day forward. Mom
and Dad were blessed with almost 40 yrs of marriage having 3 children and sent
them to Saint Joseph's grade school and St Joseph’s Academy and
Marquette! Mom worked seasonally at Snokist Cannery to help with tuition. We
went to Mass every Sunday as a family and mom made sure we behaved at
church or she would threaten us with her nice selection of wooden spoons😉
• Mom loved big family celebrations which involved the Dufault and or the
McGrath clans getting together in our little house feasting on big meals and
potlucks!! Great Family fun for all! Mom loved to cook great meals and
usually had fresh baked cookies after school for us and she baked casseroles
and cakes and cookies for some friends and neighbors just to show she cared!
• Dad died in 1990 and mom adjusted to becoming the head of the family. She
continued with all the family get togethers, attending church on Sundays and
enjoying grandkids and just enjoying her life gifts. She was so helpful to all of
her family members including her kids and brothers and sisters!
• In the last 6 years mom has had a few health concerns but she continued to be
strong and independent and never complaining. As time continued Sonny
became her support person checking on her thru the day helping with
maintaining her home with her independence. She had a couple of stays in
rehab coming out strong and willing to do the work needed to maintain her
independence in her home. It was a lot of work on her part and took a lot of
loving care supplied by Sonny.
• Mom was so thankful to Sonny and her rehab crew helping her to to continue to
stay in her home until Her Heavenly Father took her home April 30 ,2025
