

Cumberland – Anna Louise Whittier Shorey, 82, of Cumberland passed from this life to the next on Monday December 20, 2010 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born in Bangor on February 2, 1928, a daughter of Ethel (Chipman) and Levens H. Whittier. Anna was educated in Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1946. Anna married Walter G. Shorey, Jr., of Veazie, on December 21, 1947 and together they had three sons.
Anna spent the first 20 years of her marriage traveling with Walter, who was a career military person with the US Marines, US Army Air Corps and US Air Force. They settled in Cumberland in 1967 and lived there continuously until her death. Anna was a member of the Eastern Star and the Tuttle Road United Methodist Church in Cumberland.
Anna enjoyed working with children and worked for the Cumberland School District as a school bus driver for 23 years and is still well known to several generations of Cumberland’s children. Anna enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and crafts. Befitting someone who places others before herself, she led a very full life enjoying family and friends.
Anna is survived by her three sons: Walter G. Shorey, III and his wife Ellen of North Yarmouth; Joel W. Shorey of Westbrook; Jeffrey D. Shorey and his wife Hazel of North Yarmouth; her five grandchildren: Mindy, Amy, Elizabeth, Mathew and Jason; her four great-grandchildren: Chad, Kyle, Kostya and Tatiana; her two sisters: Marcia Whittier and Mary Freeman, both of Bangor; her brother Robert Whittier and his wife Phyllis of Dover-Foxcroft and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Water who died in 2000.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday December 22, 2010 from 5 – 7 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME. The funeral service will be held on Thursday December 23 at 11:00 AM at the Tuttle Road United Methodist Church, 52 Tuttle Road, Cumberland, ME. Burial will be in Farris Cemetery in Cumberland and a reception will follow in the church hall.
