Freeport, ME- Charles “Sonny” L. Phillips Jr., 65, of Lambert Road, passed away on January 20, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Portland on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1953, a son of Charles L. Sr. and Eleanor (Gormley) Phillips.
A graduate of Freeport High School, Sonny also attended various trade schools, including culinary arts.
He had a quick wit and was known for his one-liners, although you had to listen closely! He was also known as a hard worker, an artist, a chef, a gentle giant and a caregiver to the disabled. Sonny loved and owned classic old cars, spending time with his dogs, collecting antique clocks and reading. He also loved South Freeport and his beloved, “Lambert Road”, and was especially proud of his Irish Heritage.
He was pre-deceased by his mother and a sister, Susan Phillips.
He is survived by his father, Charles Phillips Sr. and his longtime partner Maryann Proulx of Gorham; sister, Nancy Phillips Scott and husband Brad of Gorham; brother, Mark A. Phillips of North Carolina; sister, Diane Phillips of Freeport. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His beautiful, gentle and kind spirit will be greatly missed.
A private service will be held in the spring.
