

FALMOUTH -- David Timms, formerly of Tallmadge, Ohio, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Freeport, Ill., died at Sedgewood Commons on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1923, to Ezra Dowd and Daisy Mariner Timms in Tallmadge. He attended East High and Hower Trade School, served in the Navy, 1941-45, on an oiler in the South Pacific, then on the USS Vulcan in Iceland. He was involved in taking supplies into Russia via the North Sea; as well as in the Mediterranean, and honorably discharged in New Orleans.
David married Beatress Pinkston on May 2, 1943, in Akron. After the war he earned his GED, entered the Goodyear Apprenticeship Program, earned a position in the machine shop and became a supervisor, retiring in 1986.
He was a founding member of the Judson Baptist Church in Tallmadge, serving as deacon, trustee and moderator. David was involved with Indian Guides and Little League with his son. He participated in the Fall Festival Community Chorus, was a past master of the Masonic Lodge, and a volunteer firefighter. He was fond of camping, hunting, and fishing, crossword puzzles and word games. He loved spending time with family and working with his hands. He built two homes and helped others build theirs. David built, repaired or tinkered with almost anything: mechanical to electronic, even learning to make his own suits.
He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Charlene Elisabeth Denzin and Lois Burgers, and brother, Charles Timms. He is survived by Beatress, his wife of 68 years, of Falmouth; son Larry Timms and wife Ruth of El Cajon, Calif., daughter Valerie Taylor and husband Stephen of Freeport; grandchildren, David W. Timms of El Cajon, Susan Martin and husband Garrett of Freeport, Ill., Matthew Taylor and wife Julie of Peru, and Geoffrey Taylor of Freeport; great- granddaughters, Hannah and Aeryn Martin of Freeport, Ill.; sister Margaret and husband Kent Boeger of Carmi, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
His service will be on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. Interment and a second service will be held at a later date in Tallmadge, Ohio. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com for further and future information.
