
Yarmouth – Dorothy (Kelly) V. Harrington, “Dot”, of Littlejohn Island died Monday, January 25, 2016 after a long illness. She graduated Simmons College Class of 1945, worked in the labs at MIT, and was an at-home mother. She became a teacher and completed a 24-year career as a Middle School math teacher in Framingham, MA.
Born in Boston, on May 29, 1923, Dot grew up in Brighton, MA and resided in Braintree and Framingham, MA, but she lived all her life on her beloved island, summers only at first, then year round in her retirement the past 33 years.
She is survived by her two children: son Richard A. Costello of Chicago, IL and daughter Jane E. Hurst of Yarmouth and Surry, NH; three grandchildren, a great grandson, a nephew and several nieces and cousins.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life and burial is planned for later in spring, on a date to be announced. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care, Beacon Hospice, the professionals from Yarmouth Rescue and Yarmouth Police Department, the staff at Coastal Health and Dr. James B. Donahue whose care helped Dot live her life with dignity in her home on the island.
