Everett (Ed) was born on September 13, 1937, in New Brunswick, NJ, a son of Everett Arthur and Mary (Guleck) Kelsey. During his teen years, his family moved to Pittsfield, MA where he attended high school and met Patricia (Pat) A. Whalen, the love of his life. Ed graduated from Pittsfield High School and then went on to join the Army Reserve and served in the armored division based in Fort Knox, KY from 1956 until 1964.
While in the army reserve, Ed attended Nichols College in Dudley, MA, graduating in 1961. In August of 1960, Ed and Pat wed in ceremony at St. Charles in Pittsfield, MA. Ed and Pat raised two sons, Shawn and Craig and one daughter, Johanna in Westminster, MA, where they lived for 30 years. Ed particularly enjoyed attending his children's sporting and cheering events and was a volunteer with the PTA, Little League, Pop Warner Football and Basketball Boosters.
Ed was very involved in the communities of Westminster and nearby Gardner, MA and loved to golf and ski with family, neighbors and friends. He built a career in the gas and heating industry and held positions at Wisconsin Southern Gas, Gardner Gas and Pyrofax Gas before transitioning to owner and operator of Kelsey Gas Supply & Equipment.
Ed and Pat split their retirement years between Yarmouth, ME and South Pasadena, FL and loved to travel – whether that meant driving across the country, sharing their time together on an ocean cruise or boating on the Casco Bay of Maine. Ed was a talented craftsman: building and refinishing wooden boats, remodeling homes and oil painting. When at home, Ed enjoyed reading and had a passion for working alongside Pat in their gardens.
Ed leaves behind his wife Pat, his three children – Shawn Kelsey of Yarmouth, ME, Craig Kelsey and his wife Heather of Brewster, MA, Johanna Kelsey and her husband Tracy Fitzsimmons of Dover, MA. Five grandchildren – Dylan Kelsey of Yarmouth, ME, Elena Kelsey of Pittsfield, MA, Sam, Ben and Adeline Kelsey of Brewster, MA.
A Memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at a future date in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Ed can be made to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland or MSSPA in Windham.
