
Scarborough – George A. Blake, 85, of Falmouth died on Sunday December 26, 2010 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born on January 12, 1925 in Windham, ME, a son of Luella A. (Sawyer) and Arthur J. Blake. He attended Windham schools and in 1943 was inducted into the US Army. He served as a Heavy Machine Gunner seeing action at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Ardennes and Central Europe. George was a member of VFW Post 6859.
On September 25, 1947 he married Ruby E. Leighton; they were married 62 years and had three children. He was an accomplished handyman and built an addition to the family home. George worked at S.D. Warren for over 39 years as a papermaker. He was a member of Woodfords Toastmasters Club for over 30 years, an organization dedicated to helping others learn public speaking. He was also a longtime member of the West Falmouth Baptist Church.
George is survived by his son, Michael Blake of Cumberland; his daughter, Sharon Blake of Cumberland; his granddaughter, Seanna Pearson of California and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Blake. He was predeceased by his wife, a sister and a brother and his son, Dennis Blake who died October 26, 2010.
