

Gerald Lloyd Arris, 82, of Yarmouth passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Gerald was born in Portland Maine on April 9, 1934; one of seven children to Leland and Stella Arris.
Gerald was a dedicated and hardworking man who held many different types of jobs, some of which include; Pineland Hospital, the Shoe Shops, paving as well as owning his own landscaping business called “The Grass Hopper”. He even served a term in the National Guard. He had a heart of gold and a comedian’s sense of humor. He loved being the center of attention and could make anybody laugh at the drop of a hat. He was a thrifty man who was always on the lookout for the next best thing…visits to the recycling center were filled with much anticipation of what treasures could be waiting for him.
Gerald was an avid outdoorsman and a real people person. He loved fiddleheads, fishing, hunting, splitting wood and morning walks. He would always smile and wave to everybody who passed by while he was out and about all the while his two canine companions, Bully and Zeke, would wait anxiously by the window for his return. One of his favorite past times was going to Pats Pizza and Toddy Brook where, not only did he make memories, but also made many friends; new and old. He treasured time with family and spent much of the last 3 years with his loving daughters Marla, Kelly and Lisa.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Autumn Noble Arris; his children; Joleen and husband Shawn Cavanaugh, Bob and wife Mary-Jo Arris, Jerry and wife Gloria Norman, Rocky and wife Sandy Norman, Marla and husband Michael Corcoran, Kelly and husband Ron Grant and Lisa and husband Larry Neuts; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sisters; Teresa Grier, Christine Mayo and Beatrice Arris and his brother; Granville Arris. Gerald is predeceased by his parents; his brother Leland Arris; his sister Mary-Ellen Glennon; his son Steven Arris and his daughter Kathy Arris.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 11 at the First Parish Congregational Church, 461 Elmwood Rd in Pownal Center at 11:00.
