

Pownal - Jacqueline “Jackie” (Picard) Wiers, 80, of Pownal, Maine passed away with her loving family beside her, on Thursday November 6, 2014, at Freeport Nursing Home, her home for the past 14 years. Jackie was born on December 20, 1933 in Frenchville, Maine, one of eight children of Josephel and Cecile (Michaud) Picard. She grew up in Fort Kent, attended local schools and after graduation she went on to Boston to start her journey in life as a nanny.
She moved back to Maine and worked at Shaw’s where she met and married George Joseph Wiers, known to all as, “Joey” on July 5th, 1954. They lived most of their life in Pownal, ME and raised six children. Jackie retired from her last job as a CNA at Pineland Center.
She had a good quality of life after surviving a stroke 18 years ago. Jackie had a big heart and loved people and helping out where needed. She will be remembered for her loud laughter and her favorite words, “Why?”, “I don’t know”, “Yup” and her strong willingness to teach the skills she learned through the years. She was a loving mother to many.
She enjoyed putting puzzles together, gluing them and giving them out to others. She loved playing Bingo and also Phase 10 with anyone that would play with her. She really enjoyed looking at photos and getting photos of all her 30 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and her one great-great-grandson.
Jackie is survived by her children: George Peter Wiers, Jolene Ann Darling, Paul Joseph Wiers, Payson Martin Wiers, Joyce Vena Brady and Perry Alan Wiers. Also, her brothers Lloyd Picard and her sisters: Claudette Desjardin, Lorraine Nadeau, Joyce Chasse. She is survived by her wonderful, loving mother-in-law, Alvena Knight Wiers and her dearest friend Carol Clark of Portland, ME. Jackie was predeceased by her husband, her brothers: Clifford “Bee” Picard, Martin “Bobby” Picard and her sister Patricia “Patty” Picard.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Freeport Nursing Home for all the love and support given to her and her family throughout the years she resided there.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 4 – 7 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 19 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main Street, Yarmouth. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 590 Elmwood Road in Pownal with a reception following at the church hall of First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal.
