

Portland - Robert La Guardia, 65, of Freeport passed away on August 21, 2011 at the Maine Medical Center following complications of surgery and kidney disease. He was born July 24, 1946 in Passaic N.J. son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Caggiano) La Guardia and grew up and went to school in Lyndhurst, N.J.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was an officer with the Bureau of Liquor Enforcement for over 30 years. He retired as a Sergeant, he was appointed the first Officer of the Year by the Bureau. He was tremendously proud of his career and loved to reminisce about his many adventures and accomplishments. He graduated from The Maine Criminal Justice Academy and had a Degree from Westbrook College.
When he was stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station he met his wife Suzanne (Lowans) and they would have been married 42 years this September 5th.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters Patricia, Delores and Catherine and one brother Gerald. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and his two daughters Gina La Guardia of Falmouth and Christina La Guardia of Bowdoinham and his only grandson whom he adored Thomas K. La Guardia of Bowdoinham. He is also survived by his sister Marie Pastore and her husband Lorenzo of Lyndhurst, N.J. and his sister Rose Vernaglia of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and one brother Joseph J.R. La Guardia also of New Jersey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a Memorial Service for Bob at the Maine Veterans Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2011.
