

Cumberland – Robert Shaw Logan, 79 of Cumberland, died on September 16th, 2010 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Cumberland on January 12, 1931 to William Jarvis Logan and Doris Shaw Logan. Bob graduated from Greely Institute, Class of 1949 and was the All Star center fielder on the baseball team.
Bob enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951and was stationed in Nome, Alaska at Anvil Mountain which was part of the DEW Line radar stations. He was also stationed in Limestone, ME at Loring AFB and was a member of the Crazy Boards Air Force Ski Team. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
After the service, Bob worked at Southworth Machine and at Houghton Arnold in the parts department and later as credit manager. It was there that he met and married Paulina “Polly” Hollivan in 1959.
He also worked for Jackson Hearing Aid and then opened up his own business, “The Village Smithy Gift Shop”. This became “Logan’s Antiques” and held auctions for many years. Later, he became known for his furniture restoration and craftsmanship.
Bob’s love of antiques and restoration clearly showed itself in his hobby of restoring vintage cars, especially his 1941 Chevy pickup which was seen in a number of parades. In later years his main hobby was golf, golf and more golf, sometimes playing twice a day as a member of Val Halla. Also, he and Polly traveled and explored much of the East together. Bob also made time for vegetable gardens that kept his family well fed with fresh produce.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51years, Polly; his daughter Jane and her husband Pete Peterson of Portland; his daughter Julie Logan of Yarmouth; his son Steven and his wife Beth Logan of North Yarmouth; his daughter Patricia and her husband Mark Leeman of North Yarmouth; his son Tom and his wife Christine Logan of Windham; and his five grandchildren: Michael and Justin Leeman, Matthew Logan, Madisyn and Joshua Logan. He was predeceased by sister, Loretta Buhelt and Janette Gilfillan, and several relatives in Fredericton, NB.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday September 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the West Cumberland Methodist Cemetery, Blackstrap Road Cumberland with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.
