Roberta Monson O'Donnell

1935-2024

Roberta O'Donnell of Auburn, Me and Gainesville, Va passed away in Standish, Maine on August 8, 2024. She was 89.

She was born in Portland, Me on March 9, 1935. Roberta was the daughter of Viola Georgia (Harrington) Monson and Hollis Curtis Monson, and grew up in Cumberland, ME. Roberta graduated high school from Greely Institute in Cumberland ME, and from Pierre’s School of Cosmetology in Portland, ME. She married her husband of 63 years, Carl M. O’Donnell, on February 21, 1957, in Dover, NH. Carl’s work took her to Pennsylvania (1980-1982) and Massachusetts (1982-1992).

Roberta worked as a beautician for most of her career. Among the salons she worked at were Owen Moore, Rines Department Store, and Palmer Kennedy. In later years she became a cook then manager of the high school cafeteria in Bedford, MA. They retired in 1992 and moved to Naples, Florida, and camped on Sebago Lake, ME each summer. She and Carl moved to Auburn, Maine in 2013. After Carl’s passing in 2020, Roberta moved to Gainesville, VA with family and continued to summer in ME. Roberta loved spending time with her family, and being outdoors. She had a green thumb and enjoyed walking and swimming. She loved the lakes of Maine. She will be missed by the many people whose lives’ she touched.

Roberta is survived by two sisters; Merl (Corcoran) Ross and Carolyn (Corcoran) McMann; three children, Curtis O’Donnell (Rena) of Hartford, ME, Karen (Francois) Bonneau of Lewiston, ME, and Rebecca (Robert) Hauge of Gainesville, VA; 8 grandchildren, Craig O’Donnell (Christine) of Sanford, ME, Chad O’Donnell of Biddeford, ME, Cailin O’Donnell of Buckfield, ME, Natalie Bonneau of Winthrop, ME, Emily (Jeandré) Gericke of Washington, DC, Sarah (David) Kinley of Charlottesville, VA, Variah of Fairfax, VA, and Ivy Kirill Hauge of Warrenton, VA; 4 great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Cadence, Jack, and Cecilia; 1 great-great-grandchild, Logan of Biddeford, ME.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Sunday August 18, 2024 at Blanchard Cemetery at 215 Winn Road, Falmouth, ME. All are welcome to join us in celebrating her life in Standish after the service.
