

He leaves behind, son Joseph (Hyerim) pre-deceased, granddaughters Dr. Rachel Gabriel (Marius) and Dr. Katherine Gabriel and daughter Christie (Mark). Ding was also a favorite Uncle to many of his nieces and nephews which he had remained very close to.
Ding was born in Makati Rizal, Philippines on July 29, 1936, to Hilarion Sr and Valentina Gabriel. He earned a bachelor’s in accounting from Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila Philippines and an associate’s in business administration from Westchester Community College. He met his wife Iluminada (pre-deceased), who was a graduate student at Loyola University while serving in the United States Air Force stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. They settled in Yonkers, New York in 1966.
He worked as a Computer Operator for Gannett Westchester Newspapers in White Plains, New York and retired in 1994 to help care for his granddaughters along with his wife.
He was known for being a caring, selfless person who always put family first, his generosity, and sense of humor.
Visiting hours for Abelardo will be held Monday, April 7, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 740 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10701. Final disposition is private.
