Doris Capurso

Doris was born in Yonkers, New York and was a lifelong resident until 2020 when she moved to Cape Cod. She attended Yonkers schools and graduated from Gorton High School and the Grace Institute Business School.

In 1955, Doris married Mauro Peter (Pete) Capurso at Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers. She was forever grateful to Pete's cousin Margie for introducing the two of them through a blind date at Coney Island. Every year on their wedding anniversary, she would send Margie flowers in gratitude. Doris and Pete shared sixty-five wonderful years of marriage.

After launching her six children into elementary school, Doris worked as an executive secretary at A&P. She had a very strong faith, believed in the power of prayer, and was a long-time parishioner at Sacred Heart parish. After retirement, she was an active member of the Fr. Solanus Casey Prayer Group, Yonkers Group 4 Senior Citizens, the Red Hat Society, and the Christ the King Church singing group, The Chansonetts. Doris was a blessing to many and will be remembered for her love of family, friends, including her lifelong friends (Eileen, Anne, June, and Alice), church and community.

Doris was especially appreciative of her wonderful care givers in Yonkers and Cape Cod in her later years.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also loved reading, music, sharing lunch with her girlfriends, traveling, and playing board games like Scrabble and Rummy Cube.

Doris is survived by her six children: Peter (Maureen), Kathleen (Bill), Thomas (Trish), Robert, James (Lisa), and John (Diane). Also surviving are twelve grandchildren: Stephen, Franklin, Vincent, Joseph, Michelle, Megan, Timothy, Matthew, Adrianna, Autumn, Leore, and Lauren; two great-grandchildren: Layla and Marcello; and many loving extended family members.

Doris is predeceased by her husband Mauro Peter, her grandson Cale, her sister Catherine, and her brother Thomas.

Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral home on Wednesday 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday October 19th at 9:30am. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery,
