

Born in Yonkers, New York, to the late Thelma and Lenward Burwell, Edith was one of nine children. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings James, Charles, Saundra, Beverly Ann, Lenward, and Joseph.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving sisters, Sylvia Gonzalez of Long Pond, Pennsylvania, and Jacqueline Mitchell (Ron) of Long Pond, Pennsylvania.
Edith was a devoted mother to her sons, Lawrence Crews and Sharod Sapp. She was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren.
Edith dedicated over 30 years of service to St. John’s Hospital as a CNA, where she was known for her kindness and dedication to caring for others.
She loved animals and generously supported organizations such as the ASPCA and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Edith will be remembered for her loving heart, her commitment to family, and her lifelong care for others. Her memory will live on in all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703 on Monday May 4, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Religious Ceremony at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on May 4, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, 2 Saw Mill River Road, Yonkers, N.Y.
