Edna A. Cleary

Edna Amelia Cleary (nee Strahan) of Yonkers died on Monday, February 3, 2014 at age 88. Born on April 10, 1925 to Thomas and Amelia (Meyers) Strahan in Yonkers where she was raised and graduated from Yonkers High School.Mrs. Cleary was the Director of Nursing at Yonkers General Hospital when she retired in 1985; after forty years at this one location. She started as a student nurse and continually rose to title of Director. She also received her Masters in nursing from Mercy College. On September 25, 1949 she married Thomas Cleary in Sacred heart Church, he died in 2006. She is survived by her four children; Mary Ellen Cleary; Thomas (Barbara); William (Nancy); Timothy (Patricia) Cleary. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial in Christ the King Church on Friday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
