Such a good friend. Father Phil is missed deeply by those who knew him. On this Good Friday, dear Jesus, please take care of Phil. 

we wanted to express our deepest condolences on the passing of father Philip Bohan. Father Bohan married my husband and I on November 14th 1998 at St.Michaels church in Brooklyn, NY.  We were trying to locate him to give our sincere thanks for allowing us the chance to come together as one in holy matrimony. We have 3 children a beautiful home and wonderful careers. We were saddened to hear of his passing, but are truly blessed to have crossed paths with someone so devoted and compassionate as he was. May God forever grant him peace.  Thank you Father Bohan. 

I just heard your voice in my heart and tried to call you.  With a disconnected number I did some searching and found you here.  I am heartbroken.   I know you are at peace.

 My heartfelt condolences to the Bohan family. Fr.Phillip was not only my favorite  priest or teacher but my friend .I first encountered Phil,in 1973 at my father’s funeral when he came to do the service at the wake. I didn’t know then that he would be such a large influence in my life.
In September that year I attended the seventh grade at Our lady of sorrows school where again I encountered him as my religion teacher. This cool & larger than life “Padre Felipe” who spoke our street Spanglish “ call us “Bro”,would find us in the streets and parks of our neighborhood and hang out and play sports with us after school. Little did we know that he was holding services right there.
It wasn't like a sermon or a mass as he shared his stories ,thoughts and experiences. His leadership and example along with his kindness and compassion  helped shape and make us better,and in turn the Lower Eastside was a better place to live.
As I surely know that he is smiling down upon us from heaven , l also know I will miss my conversations with him, and his wit ,wisdom and insight.Til we meet again Bro. I love Fr.Phillip Bohan!



Phil Bohan was the dearest cousin and friend to me and my family. He was there to bless our children in their marriages. He attended and enjoyed our family gatherings, met us so many times for lunch in Yonkers where we shared stories of our families: the Bohans, the Quinns, the Carrigans, the Flynns. We always loved Phil beyond words. There is a hole in my heart and my family's heart when we think of there being no more time together. He was such a special part of our lives. God bless him as he goes to his just reward for all the love and kindness he showed in this life. Til we meet again, Phil..

Our sincere condolences to the Bohan family and all of Fr Phil’s friends. Though there is sadness in his passing, we can’t help but channel the Irish and celebrate all the good times, laughs, and lives he positively affected.

Fr Phil used to always joke with us about the friendly rivalry between his Capuchins and the Jesuits, who played a large role in educating so many of us. One of the core tenets of the Jesuits was “Men for Others”. With the life he lived and the effect he had on so many lives, Fr Phil bested the "Jebby's" at their own game.

I was blessed to have Fr Phil baptize me, officiate my wedding, and then baptize my children. But it was in the more routine interactions, the communion and graduation parties, a Sunday barbecue, or a burger at his favorite pub, the Piper’s Kilt in Inwood that Fr Phil brought the best out in us. These are the memories we will cherish most.

I knew of Fr Phil for yrs ever since Margaret and I became friends. I met him once, 6 yr ago but it felt like i knew him all my life. I mentioned that i was born and raised in Puerto Rico , we spoke Spanish, talked about the Parish, and his visits to the Capuchin Center in Rio Piedras. 
That  made me OMG 100 times! At the top of the street in Our neighborhood, a hill top, there is a kid's park where we hung out. Frm there you look straight out and down the lush green hill and you see the Center! Kids never wore watches so the curfew was  to head back "when the Capuchin's lights went on".  Since we met,  I have often think of  the times i looked out to the Center,  and wondered who knows, maybe Fr Phil could have been looking out too!  Indeed the world us very small, yrs later I met his sister in CA and became my best friend since!
What a life well lived!
He will always be with you, he is part of all of you, and he will live forever more in our memories.

I met Father Phil in 1988, when he was assigned to The sacred Heart Parish in Yonkers , wherever my career took me and wherever he was assigned, we were always in contact with each other. He always found the time to talk to me, or go to an endless number of sporting events , have hundreds of dinners and have had thousands of conversations. He was and will be a tremendous influence in my life and will never forget his guidance and his wisdom.  I will the never forget the   friendship we shared and I thank him for all that he has done for me in my life and for the countless members of my family, and my friends whose lives he touched.

& I know you are looking down and keeping an eye on us, we will make you proud.
 

My sincerest condolences to the Bohan family. Father Phil was a huge influence in my life. The first time I met Father Phil, I was a first grader at Our Lady of Sorrows in 1971. He was a giant to all of us back then. Throughout my years in the lower east side, Father Phil has been a positive force. I’d seek him out for advice or just needed an ear to listen. He was present for many of my life’s milestones, including marrying me and my wife, Frances. 

I am grateful for having kept Fr. Phil in my life all these years. We spoke a few months ago and he’d still kid me about whipping me in racquetball. He’d still challenge me, pacemaker and all. 

Father Phil, Rest In Peace. I will miss you and our talks about life as well as reminiscing about the past. I’m blessed to have had you in my life.

My condolences to your family Father Phil, it has been an honor to have known you over 45 years, you were literally part of my family and so many memories I will always treasure Our Moment our conversations I'll talk about life Sports I'll memories of Yankee Stadium and how you kept every game score card our occasional get together dinners with the guys. The faith you taught and instilled in me won't be forgotten till we meet again. God Bless. 

It wasn’t until junior or senior year in high school that I became very close friends with Fr. Phil. Undecided about what to do in life, I began meeting with Fr. Phil for monthly racquetball games and lunch.  Although to me it seemed like an innocent game and a bite to eat, we began having long conversations about the positives and blessings in my life. As I seemed lost and lacked confidence about finding my path in life. Little did I know that I would find my calling a few years later with the FDNY.  After studying real hard I got promoted to Lieutenant and within a few weeks to Captain. Checking in with Fr Phil often, he would always say “ I can remember a conversation about somebody being lost and not finding there way.” “And that you couldn’t do it.” “Now what are you a General.” It always made me smile and laugh after all these years.  I had the honor of being married by Fr Phil to a wonderful woman, and my 3 children are very blessed to have been baptized by him. I will miss our conversations, your guidance and gentle approach with stunning results. Till we meet again Fr. May the road rise to meet you and the wind be always at your back.

I, like my brother Mickey, met Father Phil back in 1970 when he was visiting St Clare's Parish in Rosedale NY. After that, it wasn't unusual for him to drop by St Clare's on a Sunday night to watch one of the many CYO basketball games going on. Phil always liked visiting with us Rosedale boys and he became close friends with several over the years. 

I joined the military in 1980 and was stationed many places over the years. Whenever my wife, Ede, and I would come home for a family visit or celebration of one event or another, Phil always took the time to visit with us and ask what was going on in our lives.

 One of my most vivid memories of Father Phil was when we were talking at Colleen's, wedding. I asked him, both of us a little gray, "Phil how long have been a part of our family?" He looked at me, and with a  twinkle in his bright Irish eyes and a mischievous grin on his face, called over to my younger sister, who was nearby and asked, "Hey Jeanne, how old are you?" Now, we all know a gentleman doesn't ask a lady her age, but the smile on his face and  quiet humor in his voice made it all OK. We had a good laugh because Father Phil came into our lives when my mother, Teresa, was pregnant with Jeanne in 1970.

In 2008 mom passed away on St Patrick's Day. Father Phil  presided over her funeral and how fitting it was for him to honor the proud Irish woman who brought him into all our lives. Father Phil was also with us for comfort after our father passed in 2014... he was always there for us, in the happy times and the sad.

Rest in peace Phil, your legacy of faith and devotion is mirrored in a couple of generations of Harmons and close extended families, and all those you've touched with your counsel, your friendship, your wisdom and wit, and most of all your love. May God bless you and  hold you in the palm of his hand.

I was married by Fr. Phil a few weeks after 9/11. I will never forgot his words of comfort and his message of hope and forgiveness during that very difficult time.  He baptized my four children and loved each of them.  He  always talked with them when we gathered and asked about them.  He was a big part of our family. 

There were many times in my life through sickness and even death that he was there. He always knew what to say.  He was wise and he was so gentle.  A kind and selfless soul.  I will miss his jokes and funny stories.  I will miss the Christmases, baptisms, communions and all of our gatherings.  

We will meet some day again . May he Rest In Peace.

I am one of the nephews Mickey Harmon mentions who was married by Fr. Phil; and he also baptized my youngest child.  “Padre”, as I often called him was such a calming, supportive  influence in my life and I cherished our relationship.  He was a positive force that still kept me tethered to the Church because he was truly one of the good guys.   

I vividly remember his purposeful invocation of the parable of “The King and the Maiden” by the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard in his sermon on my wedding day as his way of making a point to me about life and relationships (point well taken, Padre 😉)...

He was a bigger believer in me than I ever was.  I always felt I could be completely honest with him without fear of judgment.  I will miss the compassion, the understanding and the care that went into his perspective...

When both of us were a bit younger and agile we enjoyed spirited games of racquetball along with my brother Matt, the Harmon boys and Joe Whaley.  Padre enjoyed the games (and beating us!), the banter and the lunch conversations after, whether it was on our home turf or we ventured up to Yonkers.

He was also the cheapest date to a Yankees game I’ve ever had...a beer, a bag of peanuts and a scorecard and he was good for 9 innings of great conversation and storytelling...one thing was clear: we both shared a love of the Yankees but differed greatly in how to score a baseball game

Over the years my extended family was graced with Father Phil’s presence at countless holidays and family events.  His energy, enthusiasm and zest for life always made those occasions that much better for everyone.  Most recently, I had the pleasure of hosting him in my home for this past Christmas.  Sadly, it would turn out to be  the last  time I would see him; but it was a wonderful holiday memory that I will keep forever.

Padre, you were a tremendous example to us all.  My family and I will miss you greatly.  May you rest in eternal peace...🙏🏻

From marrying my husband and I, baptizing our 4 children, playing extremely competitive racquetball games against my husband 😉, backyard communion parties, sharing Thanksgiving dinners, and countless other memories- we adored you, Father Phil. How blessed my family and I are to have known you, loved you, and been a part of your wonderful life. As my young son stated when he heard the news, “Now who will ever baptize the next baby in the family?” A faith-filled, giving, loving, intelligent, funny, kind-hearted man whom we will truly miss. My friendship with Fr. Phil started 50 years ago when he led a retreat at St. Clare’s Parish in Rosedale,  and he has been a part of my family’s life ever since.   When he married my wife and I in 1977, little did he know he would come to marry numerous siblings,  children, nieces and nephews; baptize my children and grandchildren; and bury the loved ones lost.  But more importantly, he was a part of every celebration, from communions to graduations to Thanksgivings and Christmases and Super Bowl Sundays.  He loved to be around the young people engaging them in conversations, talking sports, and sharing his many words of wisdom.  Phil, you were our priest, counselor, and most of all our dear friend.   Now you are home.  Rest In Peace.

Fr. Phil was an incredible person who was no doubt hand picked for his calling in life. His kindness, humor and compassion  allowed him to reach so many people throughout his time here. Fr. Phil was the kind of person that you would meet again after 15-20 years and he would remember every detail from the years before. When you spoke with Fr. Phil you knew you were loved. I am lucky to have crossed paths with you Father.  Thank you Padre, the world needs more people like you. Rest In Peace  my friend 🙏🏼 

I first met Phil when we entered Glenclyffe High School on the same day in September 1955. We were closely bonded through our seminary years and managed to stay connected even after I was assigned to ministry in Maine. I last spoke with Phil on April 1st when he called me for my birthday. He was, indeed, a caring Capuchin Franciscan priest, learning with proficiency the Spanish, French and Portuguese languages. He treasured his family and spoke lovingly of them. He will be missed! Pray for us, Phil!

Phil helped shape my life during my teenage years at Our Lady of Sorrows parish in the 1970-80 ‘s period. He was loved by the Hispanic community which he served with much comfort and love. We trusted him with our deepest concerns and cherished his advice. We looked forward to his Sunday church services, for his masses were unique and entertaining. I wish Phil peace in Heaven as he unites with those waiting for him. He will comfort and entertain them as he did for us!
