

John was born in Yonkers, NY, on June 4,1947 to the late William Bartunek and Anne Bartunek (nee DeNise). He was the brother of the late William Bartunek of Mahopac. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Bartunek (nee Settembrino) of Yorktown Heights, NY. He leaves behind two daughters; Linda Michelle Kasteler (Christopher) of Woodland Hills, CA; Andrea Lynn Bartunek of Truckee, CA; and the light of his life, Granddaughter Cosette Jaymes Kasteler, age 9.
John leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was a lifelong resident of Yonkers before he moved to Yorktown
Heights in July of 2023. He graduated from Roosevelt HS, Class of '65 and was a member of the reunion committee responsible for all their celebrations. John entered the Air Force in 1966 and served for 2 years in Japan and was then stationed at Norton AFB in CA until honorably discharged in 1970 as Staff Sergeant.
John and Judy were married on July 31,1971. Shortly after employment at Duracell of Tarrytown as a draftsman, he began his sales career with New York Life and then as a manager. He continued his education and received a degree from the American College. John had over 44 years experience in the Financial Industry and held several designations and certifications. He was a Past President of the Life Underwriters Association of Westchester, the Westchester Society of Financial Service Professionals and a Board Member of other Financial Service organizations.
Community involvement and volunteering were always part of his life as a citizen of Yonkers. John served as Past President of the Amackassin Club, the Homefield Association and Past Commander of American Legion Post #299. As a 50 Plus year member of Yonkers Kiwanis, he served 9 terms as President and 2 terms as a Distinguished Lt Governor for the Bronx/Westchester South Division. He was honored by the Kiwanis Club and the city of Yonkers in 2017 for his many years of service and leadership. He leaves behind many dear friends from Kiwanis who admired and respected him for his leadership and all he contributed to the community.
From the age of 2, John was an avid car enthusiast. He owned numerous vehicles and once rebuilt a motorcycle in his "spare" time. He was gifted with artistic talent and he could build, repair, remodel and design anything.
He will be especially remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of
humor. He was the ultimate Emcee for countless events and occasions.
John was a loving husband and an amazing, devoted father to Linda and
Andrea. He will be deeply missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in John's name to the Yonkers Kiwanis Club.

A memorial visitation for John will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave, Yonkers, New York 10703. A memorial mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, New York 10703 on Saturday December 7th at 11:30 AM. Final disposition will be private.
