The vestry and parish family at the Church of the Holy Communion in Mahopac express our sympathy to Father Farrell's family. May God give you the strength to cope with your loss.

My condolences to Father Farrells family. He is gone but not forgotten. No more pain. He is in a better place. May his soul rest in peace and rise on eternal glory. He will be sorely missed.

John's frequent and thorough contributions to the Yale Club Book Club were filled with his wisdom and insight.  I will miss him greatly.

John and I were good friends during his years at Ball State University, and then again for the past three years on Facebook and by letter. He was always a sweetheart.

God Bless you John Farrell. You are with the angels now.

To all of John's loved ones: family, friends, current and former students - my deepest condolences for your loss. 

What I miss most about my friendship with John are the stimulating, often inspirational, and sometimes controversial conversations about faith, spirituality, religion, history, and art but especially, those rare moments when he would honor me by openly sharing his personal concerns and struggles. I am certain he is already resting in peace.

My fondest memory of him was when he was considering becoming a snow bird. He took a train down here to Fort Lauderdale, I picked him up at the train station and showed him around town for a few days. He spoke for me at a talk show type question and answer meeting. an interview of sorts. He really enjoyed the format and at times had a very childlike happiness and giggled like a school girl. I've always loved when people where still capable of that. He was capable of being the grumpy close minded oldtimer, but also capable of almost magical happiness when the moment struck him. That's how I choose to remember him.

Although we lived on opposite sides of the continent, John was a good and valued friend and I shall miss him.

Father John was my first Episcopal priest when I returned to being a practicing Christian. His sermon after 9/11 moved me to tears. I will miss his wit and wisdom.

I first met John when he entered Belmont Abbey College as a freshman. We spent hours in "philosophical" discussion and that was right up both of our alleys.I lost contact with him, as happens with college friends, for about 46 years. Then there was Facebook. We became Facebook friends, then we talked on the phone, and then he came to visit here in NC and we spent hours in "philosophical" discussion right in my living room. Then last July I was in NYC and John and I had a great dinner where we engaged in more "philosophical" talk. We had plans to host John here in NC again this year but sadly it didn't happen and now never will. He will be missed by many who probably had "philosophical" discussions with him. Gone too soon; rest in peace my friend.
